North American Santicizer® 143

Plasticizer Product Profile

Product Description
Santicizer® 143 Plasticizer is a proprietary, modified Triaryl Phosphate Ester, designed for use as a flame-retardant plasticizer for a variety of polymer systems. Although it is made from totally synthetic feedstocks, it closely matches the performance of Cresyl Diphenyl Phosphate (CDP). However, it does not produce the delayed neurotoxicity associated with Phosphate Esters made from Ortho Cresol or certain other ortho substituted phenols.

Santicizer® 143 is particularly suitable for use in Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) applications, including calendered goods, extrusions, plastisol-derived products and cellular vinyls. It has plasticizing characteristics very similar to CDP. Compared to Santicizer® 154 or the Isopropylated Triphenyl Phosphates, it has greater softening efficiency and imparts better low-temperature flexibility.

Common flame retardancy tests show that Santicizer® 143 exhibits better vertical burn performance and less smoke generation than competitive Triaryl Phosphates.

Like Triaryl and Alkyl Aryl Phosphates in general, it has a powerful solvating action on PVC and will significantly accelerate gellation and fusion. Compatibility of Santicizer® 143 with PVC is outstanding. Santicizer® 143 is fairly resistant to extraction by water and mild aliphatic solvents. As with all other phosphate plasticizers, a good stabilizer system is recommended to minimize in-process color development and maximize end-product life.

Santicizer® 143 is an excellent modifier for vinyl nitrile foams. It acts as a highly efficient processing aid while imparting flame retardancy required to meet specified performance criteria.

In polymer emulsions, it imparts flexibility while contributing improvements in flame retardancy over non-modified polymer systems. Santicizer® 143 is compatible with Cellulosic Polymers and contributes clarity and toughness to end products.
