Black Pigment Dispersions in Low-Viscosity Epoxy Resin: PDI 22-88032

PDI 22-88032 low-viscosity black colorant for epoxy resin features 200 to 250 times lower viscosity and easier handling than conventional black epoxy colorants having comparable pigment loadings.

The colorant is comprised of 35 percent carbon black pigment by weight, in a proprietary epoxy vehicle which is totally reactive with all epoxy resin formulations.

Special processing breaks down pigment agglomerates into individual particles which are wet-out in suspension, preventing reagglomeration and increasing opacity of the original pigment by 50 to 80 percent.

The resulting colorant is a pourable, pumpable liquid having a viscosity of 400 cps, versus 100,000 cps for conventional black epoxy paste colorants of equivalent strength.

Viscosity reduction enables the processor to incorporate colorant using a metering pump or loss-of-weight feeder or by simply pouring from weighed containers. It also minimizes the amount of colorant residue in containers, and is said to result in more rapid and uniform distribution of colorant into the base resin.

Low-viscosity black epoxy colorant is available in 5-, 30- and 55-gallon containers.
