Super Black Urethane Dispersions: PDI 34-81107

PDI Super Black colorant 34-81107 is a pumpable urethane dispersion that is four to six times stronger than traditional carbon black colorant at equivalent viscosity. Strength of the colorant is equal to that of dyes, making unnecessary the practice of "bumping" carbon black colorants with dyes to achieve intense black coloration.

The colorant is comprised of 40 percent of carbon black solids by weight (versus 10 to 12 percent solids for conventional carbon black colorants) and a totally reactive ether-type polyol vehicle.

Proprietary processing techniques reduce pigment agglomerates to individual particles which distribute more uniformly over urethane foam cells than do pigments of conventional carbon black colorants. The resulting increase in tinctorial strength, coupled with 190 to 300 percent higher pigment loading, can reduce typical letdowns of 3.0 pph using conventional blacks to 0.5 pph using PDI Super Black colorant at equivalent levels of jetness. To achieve intense black coloration without the addition of dyes, letdowns of 3.0 pph are recommended.
