Background /Overview
Our company, Procesadora de Boratos Argentinos S.A. (PBA) produces high quality borates obtained from Loma Blanca mineral deposit. Loma Blanca mine is located in the northeast Puna region of Jujuy, Argentina, approximately 180 km. northwest of San Salvador de Jujuy, capital city of the province. The processing plant is located in Palpalá, 10 km. south of San Salvador de Jujuy.
We are committed to producing borates for the industry, with the highest safety and quality standards, as well as providing a thorough customer service and support. We accomplished these goals through our top quality mineral deposit and the support of our employees and partners.
History
- 19th Century: First minerals exploitation of Ulexite by miners from the area, transporting the mineral on donkeys back.
- 1968: Cornelio Hurlbut and Lorenzo Aristarain discovered a new mineral which was named Teruggita (Ca4MgAs2B12O22(OH)12 · H2O) after Dr. Mario Teruggi from La Plata University.
- 90´s: Minera Loma Blanca becomes the owner of the mineral deposit.
- 1998: Establishment of PBA (Procesadora de Boratos Argentinos S.A.) with Canadian and American capital.
- 2002: Purchase of 100 % of PBA by Ferro Corp.
