Ferro’s High-Frequency LTCC Systems Deliver Reliable Electronic Packaging in Critical Applications

Avionics systems for sophisticated aircraft depend on robust packaging systems to ensure safe, reliable operation for the life of the plane.

Ferro Electronic Materials has introduced two new high-performance systems for the Low-Temperature Co-Fired Ceramic (LTCC) packaging market. These materials provide highly reliable packaging for critical applications such as satellite modules, military radar, antenna systems, and high-speed digital communications.

One of the new systems, A6ME, builds on Ferro’s A6M LTCC system by improving handling and processing characteristics to enable easier high-volume processing.

A6ME also has excellent dielectric properties at high frequencies, making it a material of choice for low-loss, high-reliability packaging applications such as state-of-the-art satellite, communication and radar systems.

Another new Ferro LTCC offering is the L8 system, a low-loss dielectric that can be used in a broad range of low- to mid-frequency LTCC components and modules up to 30 GHz. Components and modules include ceramic inductors, front end modules, Bluetooth modules, antenna switching modules, and common mode filters. L8 has higher flexural strength than A6ME, allowing it to be used in modules where it is both the structural and electrical component. L8 comes in four metallization systems, including all-gold for demanding applications, mixed silver and gold, all-silver system for lowest cost applications, and platable silver.

L8 material can be used to construct intricate miniature circuits in LTCC packages.
