Silver-Coated Copper is Cost-Effective Replacement for 100% Silver

Ferro’s silver-coated copper powder is an economical alternative to silver for conductive inks, adhesives and coatings used in consumer electronics, including laptop computers, cell phones and personal electronics such as MP3 players and games. Ferro developed this product to help offset higher silver costs for the electronics assembly industry.

Available in 12% and 20% silver versions, the powder has a tightly control particle size distribution with an average particle size of 3-µm. Volume resistivity is 2 x 10-4 Ω-cm. When used in a metallization paste, silver-coated copper provides a solderable composition with good leach resistance. It can be used to create circuitry and termination sites on a wide variety of substrates. The paste can be applied with conventional screen-printing methods.

Scanning electron photomicrograph shows the uniform particle size distribution of Ferro’s silver-coated copper powder.
