SPECIALTY METALLIC LEAD-FREE FLAT GLASS ENAMELS
Ferro’s Specialty Metallic Enamels are available in System76 and System140 flat glass colors. They are ideal for many interior and exterior flat glass design and aesthetic applications.
Ferro's specialty metallic effect flat glass enamels provide our customers unlimited color possibilities with the flexibility needed to satisfy specific glass color processing and market requirements. In addition to the wide color possibilities availalbe, many metallic aesthetic appearances can be applied to adjust the appearance of glass.
These colors are heavy metal-free; they do not contain intentional additions of lead (Pb), mercury (hg) and hexavalent chromium, (Cr+6).
Typical metallic glass enamels with a rough surface can be more vulnerable to dirt and difficult to clean. An added benefit of our metallic colors includes the ability to be cleaned with solvents.
Test results of metallic glass colors to evaluate the resistance to alkali, sulfide and acids that include hydrochloric, sulfuric, acetic and citric acid show performance similar to lead-containing colors for flat glass.
The metllic enamles color range is formulated with strict controls to minimize color drift, resulting in superior lot-to-lot consistency. Our rigorous testing also ensures the firing stability of mixed shades for customers that prefer to make their own in-house color matchings.
Metallic flat glass colors have been designed to comply with GANA specifications for spandrel glass used in building windows and other architectural applications.
Metallic flat glass enamels are formulated for typical glass tempering cycles with furnace temperatures set at 1180 – 1300 °F (635 – 705 °C) and with a total cycle time of 40 seconds per millimeter of glass thickness.
This results in typical glass temperatures of 1145 – 1220 °F (620-660 °C).
